In Sankalp’s Resolve For The Holistic Social And Economic Development Of The Sahariya Community, One Of The Key Challenges Has Been The State Of Financial Literacy And Banking In The Community. There Is A Considerable Knowledge Gap Regarding Financial And Digital Literacy. For The Community, Seemingly Ordinary Things Like – Opening An Account, Filling Up Online Forms, Deposit Receipts, Applying For Loans, Etc., Are Challenging. The Government Has Taken Many Significant Steps Toward The Financial Inclusion Of Weaker Sections And The State Bank Of India. But Still, A Lack Of Understanding Of Using Information Technology Has Prevented The Sahariya Community From Achieving Financial Inclusion.
In Pursuance Of Covering 30 Villages For The Financial Literacy And Public Health Awareness Project, tribal villagers particularly women and youth of 30 villages were provided Information Related To Bank Saving Accounts And The Role Of Banking Correspondents, some 120 training and interactive programmes were conducted during the 9 month period
As usual, the training session began with a pledge undertaken by all the people present on the premises to become aware and independent in all fields of life. Sankalp’s core team members viz, Mr.Umesh Kumar Sharma, Mr. Ramchandra Sen, Mr. Chanderashekar, Mrs. Mamta Jaitley, and social activist Mrs. Manju Sharma were part of the training session. The first day of training was accompanied by a night training session held within the Sankalp campus in Mamoni. Later in the night, arrangements were made to show a short regional movie for the Sahariya youth. The movie depicted the struggles of people living in rural hamlets of the state and their success in achieving a good sustainable livelihood by becoming self-aware. Sahariya youth, especially girls were very moved by the story as they can relate the story with their own struggles. A total of 15 boys and 10 Sahariya girls were present in the residential training session. Most of them are from economically backward sections but they all ha e a dream of getting primary and secondary education and a respectable life ahead.
The next day of training session began with Mrs. Mamta Jaitley and Mrs. Manju Sharma’s interactive session with the Sahariya youth. Their experience of many years working among the Sahariya community made them ideal for imparting knowledge and their on-field intuition made them closer to the community. In the hope of achieving the desired result, a four-day residential training session was concluded on 24th March 2022 in Mamoni. Sankalp’s three-month-long Financial Literacy Training and Public Health Awareness program, sponsored by SBI Life Insurance was concluded on 24th March.
